About Beaverworx
Founded in 2008, Team 2609 Beaverworx has been continually inspiring the next generation of leaders in STEM. Based out of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School in Guelph and operating as part of Royal City Community Robotics, these very busy beavers compete annually in the FIRST Robotics Competition. Students work alongside teachers, volunteers, and industry mentors to design, build, and program 120-pound robots capable of performing highly complex tasks, all under a tight timeline, strict constraints, and real-world engineering challenges.
Operating with a drive for success and innovation, Beaverworx guides its students into their future, preparing young minds to work and thrive in an increasingly technological world and global economy.
About FIRST
What is FIRST?
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international youth robotics organization. Through hands-on programs, students build real engineering, programming, design, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills — the same ones used in industry.
FIRST LEGO League
Introduces younger students to STEM through hands-on LEGO-based robotics, problem solving, teamwork, and project work.
FIRST Tech Challenge
Students design, build, and program robots to compete in an annual challenge, gaining practical engineering and programming experience.
FIRST Robotics Competition
High-school teams design, manufacture, program, and operate larger competition robots while working under real engineering constraints.

More Than Robots
Gracious Professionalism
FIRST is about more than building robots. Gracious Professionalism is a core part of the FIRST community — encouraging high-quality work while emphasizing respect, kindness, cooperation, and helping others.
Teams compete hard, but they also support one another — sharing knowledge, lending parts and tools, helping repair a broken robot between matches, and celebrating each other's successes as much as their own.

Team 2609's alliance won the Hopper Division and the FIRST Championship on Einstein Field in Houston, Texas, the top result of any Team 2609 season to date.

What is Royal City Community Robotics?
Royal City Community Robotics is the Guelph-based nonprofit that Team 2609 Beaverworx operates under, supporting local students taking part in FIRST robotics programs.

What is WWFIRST?
WWFIRST (Waterloo-Wellington FIRST Robotics) is the collaborative community of FIRST teams across Waterloo Region, Wellington County, and the surrounding area — mentors and teams working together, not just competing against each other.
